Call it larceny. Jarrian Jones sat on the board until the 161st overall pick, and the Eagles did not need to be asked twice.
A whole weekend of picks and edge rusher is somehow still a want. The Williams pick reads as want over need, and the roster will feel it at edge rusher, interior defensive lineman and other spots.
The trade work was a quiet net positive.
In sum, a sensible class that nudges the roster the right way.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 25 they get an anchor for the offensive line at fair value.
They took T.J. Tampa at par in slot 50, which is nothing to complain about. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Payton Wilson in the 53rd pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
A market-rate wide receiver, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Javon Baker. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Nice patience on Braelon Allen, who had no business lasting to the 120th overall pick. It fills a real need, too.
They zigged when the board said zag, taking James Williams at linebacker with edge rusher, interior defensive lineman and other spots open.
A cornerback of that caliber at pick 161 is the definition of value, full stop. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
They robbed the room for Jacob Cowing here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Jared Wiley in the 172nd overall pick is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. A need, and now a little less of one.
