The Braelon Allen pick is the one that will follow the Eagles into the fall. They took him 58 spots ahead of his grade, and the board is not shy about saying so.
However the rest shakes out, Wright at that price is a win they earned. The Trotter Jr. pick reads as want over need, and the roster will feel it at edge rusher, wide receiver and other spots. That edge rusher hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.
They left with cornerback solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.
Good work on the whole, with edge rusher the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 22 they get a lockdown presence outside, though they paid up to get him. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
They jumped the gun on Edgerrin Cooper, taking him earlier than his grade liked. It adds depth where they could use a little.
They zigged when the board said zag, taking Jeremiah Trotter Jr. at linebacker with edge rusher, wide receiver and other spots open.
Braelon Allen at the Round 3 slot is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Luke McCaffrey at No. 137 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
A straight-up fair deal on Andru Phillips at the 163rd pick, value and slot in agreement. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Jaylen Wright is a better player than the 172nd overall pick suggests; smart patience, rewarded. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
A conviction pick on Ethan Driskell at the 178th pick that the board grades a round light. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
They paid sticker price for Demani Richardson in No. 243, and that is fine. A need, and now a little less of one.
