FutureA
The Bears let Jones fall into their laps, and walked away with a A-. Whoever sat across the table from the Bears should ask for a receipt. They cleaned the room out, prying loose far more value than they gave up, and it was the quiet MVP of their weekend.
The Jones value carries more weight than any single miss elsewhere. Reaching for Estime left real value on the table behind him.
A whole weekend of picks and linebacker is somehow still a want.
Bottom line, they did the job about as well as it can be done.
Pick Analysis
Pick3
Rnd1
Malik Nabers
In pick No. 3 they get a true top target at fair value.
Pick15
Rnd1
Olumuyiwa Fashanu
In the 15th overall pick they get protection for the quarterback at fair value. A real need, handled.
Pick34
Rnd2
Tyler Nubin
They did well to land Tyler Nubin in No. 34, just ahead of his grade. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick36
Rnd2
Chop Robinson
Chop Robinson in pick 36 is fair value, right on his grade. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick46
Rnd2
Jackson Powers-Johnson
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Jackson Powers-Johnson. It fills a real need, too.
Pick67
Rnd3
Cooper Beebe
They liked Cooper Beebe enough to skip the value, taking him in Round 3, Pick 3. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick75
Rnd3
Audric Estime
They reached a country mile for Audric Estime at No. 75, and the board is aghast. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick100
Rnd3
Malik Washington
Malik Washington in the Round 3 slot is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick102
Rnd4
Blake Fisher
Nothing to complain about; Blake Fisher went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick103
Rnd4
DeWayne Carter
They paid sticker price for DeWayne Carter in pick No. 103, and that is fine. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick110
Rnd4
Max Melton
A straight-up fair deal on Max Melton at pick 110, value and slot in agreement. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick117
Rnd4
Darius Robinson
No drama and no debate, Darius Robinson went about where he belonged in slot 117. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick122
Rnd4
Jordan Travis
They paid up for Jordan Travis at the 122nd pick when waiting would have done the job. The roster fit checks out.
Pick146
Rnd5
Ben Sinnott
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Ben Sinnott at Round 5, Pick 10 is the proof. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick235
Rnd7
Sheridan Jones
They robbed the room for Sheridan Jones here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
