edmishleau DRAFTING FOR THEPackers
Draft Selections
Draft Grade — Packers
Overall
B-
ValueB-
NeedB-
TradesB-
FutureB-
The Packers cashed the board's mistake on Hicks: B-. The one they had to fix is still broken. The Packers left edge rusher untouched, and that omission hangs over an otherwise reasonable haul.
The Hicks steal is the beam this whole class leans on. Every board in the league had Taylor III lower, and that gap is the story. They went 5 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.
Good work on the whole, with edge rusher the one box left unchecked.
Pick Analysis
Pick25
Rnd1
Graham Barton
In slot 25 they get a plug-and-play piece up front at fair value. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick41
Rnd2
Edgerrin Cooper
Edgerrin Cooper in the 41st pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick58
Rnd2
Max Melton
By-the-book stuff, Max Melton at No. 58 squarely in line with his ranking. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick88
Rnd3
Leonard Taylor III
They jumped the gun on Leonard Taylor III, taking him earlier than his grade liked. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick91
Rnd3
Jaden Hicks
Jaden Hicks in pick 91 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick125
Rnd4
Josh Newton
A straight-up fair deal on Josh Newton at pick No. 125, value and slot in agreement. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick168
Rnd5
Mason McCormick
Mason McCormick slid further than he should have, and the 168th pick is lovely value for the offensive lineman. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick201
Rnd6
Elijah Jones
Elijah Jones slipping to pick 201 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick219
Rnd6
Tanner McLachlan
Tanner McLachlan at pick No. 219 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick245
Rnd7
Tyler Owens
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Tyler Owens at the Round 7 slot. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
Pick255
Rnd7
Jordan Whittington
Nice patience on Jordan Whittington, who had no business lasting to the 255th overall pick. The roster fit checks out.
