After circling the position for what felt like forever, the Vikings committed. Bo Nix is the quarterback now, and the roster gets built to his timeline. It does the job without flash, and the B- reflects it.
The Wilson value carries more weight than any single miss elsewhere. Spending an early pick on cornerback with edge rusher, offensive lineman and other spots open is the decision the grade keeps circling back to. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped edge rusher, which is a strange place to end up.
A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.
Pick-by-Pick
Bo Nix at pick 11 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
No drama and no debate, Kalen King went about where he belonged in pick No. 42. A minor need, but a need all the same.
A top-tier linebacker at a bargain, Payton Wilson in Round 4, Pick 9, plain and simple. A minor itch, scratched.
A curious use of the Round 4 slot. Edge rusher, offensive lineman and other spots needed the pick; a cornerback in Khyree Jackson did not.
A safety of that caliber at the 156th pick is the definition of value, full stop. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
A quiet steal in the 166th overall pick: McCallan Castles for less than the market said. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
They paid up for Jordan Jefferson at slot 179 when waiting would have done the job. The roster fit checks out.
