After circling the position for what felt like forever, the Vikings committed. Bo Nix is the quarterback now, and the roster gets built to his timeline. It does the job without flash, and the B- reflects it.

The Wilson value carries more weight than any single miss elsewhere. Spending an early pick on cornerback with edge rusher, offensive lineman and other spots open is the decision the grade keeps circling back to. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped edge rusher, which is a strange place to end up.

A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.11 · Pick 11 · Bo Nix · QB · rank 23
Bo Nix at pick 11 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
R2.10 · Pick 42 · Kalen King · CB · rank 40
No drama and no debate, Kalen King went about where he belonged in pick No. 42. A minor need, but a need all the same.
R4.9 · Pick 109 · Payton Wilson · LB · rank 65
A top-tier linebacker at a bargain, Payton Wilson in Round 4, Pick 9, plain and simple. A minor itch, scratched.
R4.30 · Pick 130 · Khyree Jackson · CB · rank 105
A curious use of the Round 4 slot. Edge rusher, offensive lineman and other spots needed the pick; a cornerback in Khyree Jackson did not.
R5.20 · Pick 156 · James Williams · S · rank 135
A safety of that caliber at the 156th pick is the definition of value, full stop. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
R5.30 · Pick 166 · McCallan Castles · TE · rank 156
A quiet steal in the 166th overall pick: McCallan Castles for less than the market said. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
R6.4 · Pick 179 · Jordan Jefferson · DT · rank 187
They paid up for Jordan Jefferson at slot 179 when waiting would have done the job. The roster fit checks out.
R6.15 · Pick 190 · Isaiah Davis · RB · rank 190
A market-rate running back, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Isaiah Davis. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
