The phones were a trap the Raiders kept walking into, shipping out surplus on nearly every deal.
Drake Maye is the bet, and the class will be judged on how it pays off. Leaving edge rusher unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.
The Rosemy-Jacksaint steal is the beam this whole class leans on.
Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even, and edge rusher is still a hole.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 7 they get a passer to set the clock by at fair value. A real need, handled.
Fair-plus on T'Vondre Sweat, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
A slide stopped in pick 69, with Xavier Worthy worth more than the price. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
By-the-book stuff, Josh Newton at slot 122 squarely in line with his ranking. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Nehemiah Pritchett in the 148th overall pick. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Mason McCormick in the Round 5 slot is exactly on the number, no argument either way. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
They took Joe Milton III at par in No. 194, which is nothing to complain about. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Elijah Jones in pick No. 223 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
They let Nathan Thomas come to them and pounced at No. 224. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
The board fumbled Marcus Rosemy-Jacksaint all the way to the 229th pick, and they scooped it up. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Somehow Michael Barrett was still sitting there in slot 238, and they pounced on premier linebacker value. A minor itch, scratched.
Circle this one: Garret Greenfield at the Round 7 slot is a fall that decides a draft. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
