You build a draft on nights like this. Curtis Jacobs had no business being available in the Round 7 slot, and the Raiders did the only sane thing and turned in the card. More right than wrong, and a B to match.
Leaving edge rusher unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. They are betting Keegan proves the room right and everyone else wrong. Cornerback was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.
Building through the lines is a philosophy, and they stuck to it.
A tidy weekend of work that should hold up just fine.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 13 they get protection for the quarterback. The biggest hole, addressed.
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Xavier Legette at pick 44 is the proof. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
A clean, defensible pick in the 77th pick with a little surplus value in Junior Colson. A minor need, but a need all the same.
No drama and no debate, DJ James went about where he belonged in the Round 4 slot. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
They paid a round early for Braelon Allen in slot 147, more than the board wanted. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Jordan Jefferson at No. 190 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. A need, and now a little less of one.
Curtis Jacobs in the 221st overall pick should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. A want more than a need, though you can never have too many.
Trevor Keegan at Round 7, Pick 11 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
