For all the boxes ticked, the Vikings skipped the loudest one: quarterback is exactly as bare as it was.
The cost of the McGlothern reach is exactly the players who went right after him. The Simpson steal is the beam this whole class leans on.
Safety was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.
Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a plug-and-play piece up front. The biggest hole, addressed.
Byron Murphy II at Round 2, Pick 10 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A need, and now a little less of one.
No drama and no debate, Jaden Hicks went about where he belonged in pick 108. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
They read the board right and Kris Abrams-Draine was the payoff at the 130th pick. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Fair-plus on Dylan Laube, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Value with a capital V on Jaylin Simpson in slot 160, a genuine coup. They added to a strength when a need was still open elsewhere.
Chau Smith-Wade at the 166th overall pick is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
Rasheen Ali in No. 179 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Dwight McGlothern at the 230th pick is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. A luxury on a unit that was already in good shape.
