Draft Grade — Bears
Overall B
ValueC NeedB TradesA+ FutureB-
The Bears won the weekend at the trade table. Grade: B.

If confidence were a draft strategy, the Bears would have aced it. Zy Alexander at pick 256 is 84 spots clear of where he belonged.

They robbed the room blind at the table, and it lifts the grade on its own. A whole weekend of picks and linebacker is somehow still a want. The Adam Trautman deal gives the class an established piece to lean on.

Nothing here to lose sleep over, and plenty to feel decent about.

Pick Analysis
Pick22 Rnd1 James Pearce Jr.
In Round 1, Pick 22 they get a premier pass rusher, though they paid up to get him. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick37 Rnd2 Tyler Booker
Tyler Booker in pick No. 37 is fair value, right on his grade. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick46 Rnd2 Tate Ratledge
They did well to land Tate Ratledge in No. 46, just ahead of his grade. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick53 Rnd2 Parker Brailsford
A wild overpay on Parker Brailsford in slot 53, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick77 Rnd3 Josh Simmons
Josh Simmons at the Round 3 slot is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. The roster fit checks out.
Pick120 Rnd4 Jonah Coleman
Jonah Coleman at pick 120 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick149 Rnd5 Nic Anderson
Nic Anderson in the 149th pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick201 Rnd6 Tim Smith
Tim Smith at the 201st overall pick is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick245 Rnd7 Oronde Gadsden II
They paid sticker price for Oronde Gadsden II in slot 245, and that is fine. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick256 Rnd7 Zy Alexander
Zy Alexander at Round 7, Pick 42 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
