FutureB-
Larceny in pick No. 232 lands the 49ers a B, Williams and all. The value of the weekend has a name and a slot: Isaiah Williams, the Round 7 slot, roughly 47 picks past where he belonged. They moved the roster forward and banked a B for it.
They covered a lot of ground and still skipped running back, which is a strange place to end up. Ceaser has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced. On the needs board they went 6 of 8, with offensive lineman the one that mattered most.
Building through the lines is a philosophy, and they stuck to it.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the running back spot they never got to.
Pick Analysis
Pick31
Rnd1
Amarius Mims
In No. 31 they get protection for the quarterback at a price that makes it sweeter. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick63
Rnd2
Max Melton
No drama and no debate, Max Melton went about where he belonged in pick No. 63. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick94
Rnd3
Michael Hall Jr.
Michael Hall Jr. slipping to pick 94 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick123
Rnd4
Renardo Green
A slide stopped in the Round 4 slot, with Renardo Green worth more than the price. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick130
Rnd4
Dominick Puni
Somehow Dominick Puni was still sitting there in Round 4, Pick 30, and they pounced on premier offensive lineman value. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick132
Rnd4
Nelson Ceaser
They paid up for Nelson Ceaser at slot 132 when waiting would have done the job. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick175
Rnd5
Layden Robinson
Layden Robinson at the 175th overall pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick215
Rnd6
JD Bertrand
Good price on JD Bertrand in the 215th pick, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. It fills a real need, too.
Pick232
Rnd7
Isaiah Williams
They robbed the room for Isaiah Williams here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick251
Rnd7
Erick All
The board fumbled Erick All all the way to Round 7, Pick 31, and they scooped it up. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
