The 49ers won the night they stopped Keegan from sliding. Grade: D.

Somewhere a general manager is explaining how Trevor Keegan got past him. The 49ers do not have to explain a thing at the 211th overall pick.

Overpaying at the table undid a lot of the good work elsewhere. Spending an early pick on OLB-EDGE with interior defensive lineman, quarterback and other spots open is the decision the grade keeps circling back to.

Leaving interior defensive lineman unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. Every board in the league had McCaffrey lower, and that gap is the story.

In short, the board sent warnings, and they will be hoping it was wrong.
