Draft Grade — Commanders
Overall

FutureA
A costly weekend of dealing drags the Commanders to a C+. Somebody took the Commanders to the cleaners. The deals they made bled real value, and the whole class wears it.
If Stover pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about. Spending an early pick on linebacker with quarterback, running back and other spots open is the decision the grade keeps circling back to.
A whole weekend of picks and quarterback is somehow still a want. If one pick saves this weekend, it is Nelson.
The verdict is a shrug for now, with the swing picks left to write the real ending.
Pick Analysis
Pick15
Rnd1
Taliese Fuaga
In the 15th pick they get a building block for the line at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick36
Rnd2
Jordan Morgan
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Jordan Morgan at the 36th overall pick is the proof. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick40
Rnd2
Xavier Legette
No edge and no loss on Xavier Legette in the Round 2 slot; it is a wash and a sensible one. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick46
Rnd2
T.J. Tampa
No drama and no debate, T.J. Tampa went about where he belonged in slot 46. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick67
Rnd3
Jeremiah Trotter Jr.
A clean, defensible pick in pick 67 with a little surplus value in Jeremiah Trotter Jr.. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick82
Rnd3
Payton Wilson
The eyebrow-raiser of the weekend. They went linebacker with Payton Wilson while clear needs at quarterback, running back and other spots sat open.
Pick100
Rnd3
Cooper Beebe
A premium they did not need to pay, Cooper Beebe a notch or two before his time. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick102
Rnd4
Cade Stover
A wild overpay on Cade Stover in Round 4, Pick 2, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick141
Rnd5
Moose Muhammad III
They paid a round early for Moose Muhammad III in the 141st overall pick, more than the board wanted. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick181
Rnd6
Jaylen Harrell
They took Jaylen Harrell at par in No. 181, which is nothing to complain about. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick223
Rnd7
Zion Nelson
Nice patience on Zion Nelson, who had no business lasting to Round 7, Pick 3. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
