Draft Grade — Texans
Overall B
ValueB NeedB TradesB- FutureB-
The Texans kept it disciplined and banked a B.

The Texans went off the board in a big way for Zion Tupuola-Fetui, 47 picks early. Conviction is one thing; this is another. It nets out to a B, which feels about right.

They banked enough surplus on Mitchell to cover a lot of smaller sins. That running back hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. Value over need was the throughline, for better and worse.

Not a headline-grabber, but a perfectly good weekend's work.

Pick Analysis
Pick23 Rnd1 Rome Odunze
In the Round 1 slot they get a home-run threat at receiver, and a steal at that. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick59 Rnd2 Quinyon Mitchell
Circle this one: Quinyon Mitchell at slot 59 is a fall that decides a draft. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick85 Rnd3 Marist Liufau
They paid sticker price for Marist Liufau in No. 85, and that is fine. It fills a real need, too.
Pick124 Rnd4 Sione Vaki
Sione Vaki at pick 124 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick128 Rnd4 Zion Tupuola-Fetui
They reached into another round for Zion Tupuola-Fetui, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick161 Rnd5 Renardo Green
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Renardo Green at pick No. 161. They doubled down on a strength rather than a need.
Pick236 Rnd7 De'Corian Clark
De'Corian Clark at the 236th pick is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick245 Rnd7 Tanner McLachlan
Tanner McLachlan at pick 245 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. The roster fit checks out.
