Draft Grade — Texans
Overall B-
ValueC NeedB+ TradesB- FutureB-
The Texans checked most of the boxes and earned a B-.

The move everyone will second-guess came early. The Texans reached some 45 spots for Tanner McLachlan, and value like that does not grow back.

For all the activity, running back went untouched, which is hard to explain. Ceaser at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster. Job largely done: wide receiver settled and 5 of 8 of the wish list covered.

Not a headline-grabber, but a perfectly good weekend's work.

Pick Analysis
Pick23 Rnd1 Chop Robinson
In pick 23 they get a double-digit-sack hope, even if it was a touch early. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick59 Rnd2 Edgerrin Cooper
Edgerrin Cooper in No. 59 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick85 Rnd3 Leonard Taylor III
They left a pile of value on the table to take Leonard Taylor III this early at the 85th overall pick. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick124 Rnd4 Nelson Ceaser
Nelson Ceaser at Round 4, Pick 24 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick128 Rnd4 Malik Mustapha
They went early on Malik Mustapha in the Round 4 slot, and the value did not follow. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick161 Rnd5 Zion Tupuola-Fetui
They paid a round early for Zion Tupuola-Fetui in pick No. 161, more than the board wanted. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick236 Rnd7 Joshua Cephus
A wild overpay on Joshua Cephus in pick No. 236, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick245 Rnd7 Tanner McLachlan
Tanner McLachlan in the 245th pick is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
