Draft Grade — Texans
Overall B-
ValueB NeedB TradesB- FutureB-
No fireworks, just a tidy B- for the Texans.

Somewhere a scout is still blinking. The Texans spent the Round 7 slot on Tanner McLachlan, a name the board had a full 45 spots lower.

Lassiter at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster. Leaving running back unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.

Bottom line, more hits than misses and a roster nudged the right way.

Pick Analysis
Pick23 Rnd1 Byron Murphy II
Good price on Byron Murphy II in the 23rd pick, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick59 Rnd2 Kamari Lassiter
Kamari Lassiter at the 59th overall pick is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick85 Rnd3 Marist Liufau
No edge and no loss on Marist Liufau in Round 3, Pick 22; it is a wash and a sensible one. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick124 Rnd4 Sione Vaki
A conviction pick on Sione Vaki at pick 124 that the board grades a round light. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick128 Rnd4 Jaheim Bell
They jumped the gun on Jaheim Bell, taking him earlier than his grade liked. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick161 Rnd5 Marcus Rosemy-Jacksaint
They read the board right and Marcus Rosemy-Jacksaint was the payoff at the Round 5 slot. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick236 Rnd7 Xavier Thomas
Xavier Thomas at No. 236 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick245 Rnd7 Tanner McLachlan
Tanner McLachlan at the 245th overall pick is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
