Tre'Vius Hodges-Tomlinson attended Midway High School and was rated a 3-star prospect by 247 Sports with a scout's rating of 0.840. Following high school, Hodges-Tomlinson opted to join TCU something that was pretty unavoidable given he is the nephew of TCU football legend and Pro Football Hall of Famer LaDainian Tomlinson. In 2019 as a freshman Hodges-Tomlinson saw action in 8 games and played a total of 99 snaps at cornerback for the Horned Frogs.
As a sophomore in 2020 he won the starting job and played in 10 games, logging 620 snaps for the Horned Frogs. He made 23 tackles, 4 assists, and had 9 stops. In coverage, he totaled 14 pass breakups and an impressive QB rating when targetted of 59.2.

Scouting Report: Strengths
- Hugely experienced and acclaimed corner - played on nearly 2500 snaps for TCU while putting up a career QB rating when targetted of just 56.3
- Despite small stature has managed to play all over the defensive backfield - played in the slot, in the box but mainly on the outside as a traditional corner
- Very solid tackler who confidently wraps up and gives it all despite size limitations in the running game - experience developed from him playing safety in high school
- Anticipation skills and explosive, downhill burst could make him a star in a zone-based scheme.
- Changes directions with ease and has the frame to hold up at any spot in the secondary.
- Major football bloodlines nephew of Pro Football Hall of Famer LaDainian Tomlinson
- Made Bruce Feldman's Freak's List - ranked #57. He wrote, "He’s a good player, but what he lacks in height, he makes up for with explosiveness. He vertical-jumped 42 inches and broad-jumped 10-8. His 40 time: 4.30. He has also back-squatted 605."
- Has the high football IQ and awareness to play all over the defensive backfield - has a great understanding of zone schemes
- Makes up for his shorter-than-ideal arm length with a huge vertical jump and explosiveness
- Has more of a slot receiver skill set, but with more and more small, quick receivers emerging as No. 1 threats, is the kind of quick-footed cover man who can counter those kinds of pass catchers.
- Hodges-Tomlinson can flip his hips and run, with elite top-end speed and ball skills to make plays at the catch point
- He’ll line up in press at times, where Hodges-Tomlinson has a quick and powerful punch. His ball skills are impressive, and he plays with an extremely confident and competitive demeanor.
Scouting Report: Weaknesses
- Very small smurf style corner stands at just 5-8 and weighing in at 175lbs. Wasn't even asked to go to the Senior Bowl because the selectors regarded him too short to get drafted
- Has the shorter arms you would expect for a player of his size - with a limited catch radius
- A little grabby at times as he tries to make up for his size disadvantage
- Making the tackle against bigger backs is a potential issue
- Is too often a little aggressive and gets caught peaking into the backfield
- Doesn’t bring enough physicality, as he seems unsure moving downhill as a run defender and doesn’t deliver much pop as a tackler
- Was an outside corner at college but pro teams will view him as a slot-only guy and won't trust him on the outside due to height issues
Scouting Report: Summary
Tre'Vius Hodges-Tomlinson is the kind of player who would be a high first-round prospect if he was a couple of inches taller. He's extremely athletic with the deep speed required for the position and has both excellent man and zone cover skills and has been rewarded with a huge array of awards as a result - including the Jim Thorpe award (for the best college DB in the nation) in 2022. Unfortunately, Hodges-Thomlinson isn't a couple of inches taller, he's only 5-8 (maybe even 5-7!) and so some teams may remove him from their boards just for this.Despite the obvious size concerns there is undoubtedly a role for him at the next level - he'd make a great starting slot cover guy in the right defensive scheme. He represents value as a third-round selection in the 2023 NFL draft.
