Draft Profile: Bio
Josh Jobe was an elite athlete rated as a four-star cornerback prospect by all major recruiting services and the No. 7 corner nationally by 247Sports and the 47th-rated player overall. No. 117 on the ESPN300, the No. 15 cornerback overall, and the No. 26 player from Florida by ESPN. He chose Alabama over offers from Auburn, Georgia, Miami, Michigan, and Tennessee.During 2018 and 2019 Jobe played a limited role in the Alabama defense but in 2020 became a full-time starter opposite Patrick Surtain, and he performed well. Jobe CB logged 55 tackles, 2.5 tackles for loss, 2 sacks, 11 pass deflections, and 2 forced fumbles, and an impressive 63.4 QB rating when targetted.
2021 was less impressive as he chalked up 38 tackles, 2 interceptions, and 4 pass deflections while giving up a 109.9 QB rating when targetted.
Scouting Report: Strengths
- Good athlete with an ideal build and length to be a man to man corner - very physical player who jams well
- While he likes to play as press corner Jobe still has the skills to play in zone coverage and is natural at jumping routes with an eye for the ball
- Alert defender for zone coverage, showing good understanding of route progressions occurring behind him and a quick burst downhill to break on underneath passes in front of him.
- Has the power to blow through lead blocks on the way to the runner
- While built more like a cornerback than a safety, he has the vision, range, hitting ability, and ball skills teams want at free safety in the pass-heavy NFL.
- Stout and feisty as a run defender. Will engage, shed and securely wrap the ball carrier
- Good agility and balance when shadowing his target. Competitive player.
- Quicker than he is fast but has a burst to close in zone coverage and plays physical at the line in man.
Scouting Report: Weaknesses
- Needs to tighten his angles in pursuit. Needs to show better tackling technique to consistently finish.
- His speed is not elite and so will give up plays deep in press coverage
- Will slip off tackles and needs to finish more consistently.
- Not great finding the ball downfield - can lose the ball in the air
- Has tight hips and lacks fluidity in coverage - may be better suited to safety
- Too often caught by fakes in coverage - overly aggressive
- Grabby - gives up too many penalties
- Inconsistent getting off of blocks. Can be a step slow to react when a quarterback comes back to his side of the field late in progression.
- Has displayed tight hips when needing to change direction quickly
- Takes some poor angles on the ball and lacks the pure speed to chase down the ball carrier.
Scouting Report: Summary
Josh Jobe is an athletic corner with nice size, length, and overall strength. He excels as a run defender and is a solid tackler but has a number of issues. He possesses decent but not great deep speed and his coverage skills are far from elite and have produced inconsistent results - especially in 2021 where he performed poorly after not benefiting from playing opposite Patrick Surtain. It's difficult to see Jobe as an early starter in his pro career - he's just a little too raw and could be a liability in coverage. We really see him as a good safety prospect and perhaps represents fourth-round value for that potential, however, when looked at as a pure corner he's more likely to be viewed as a late-round pick in the 2022 NFL Draft.

The analysis is conducted against our database of draft prospects from 2021 to 2023. This similarity score helps in evaluating how closely a current prospect aligns with past prospects. It is important to note, however, that this score reflects similarities based on college production and attributes, and does not account for eventual success or performance in the NFL.
