Draft Profile: Bio
Akayleb Evans was a two-year letterwinner and starter at McKinney High School, where he played cornerback. He logged 48 tackles, five pass breakups and a fumble recovery in eight games as a cornerback his senior season He was rated a two-star prospect and accepted a scholarship to join Tulsa in 2017.

As a freshman in 2017, he played in nine games and started the first six of those games, and had 26 tackles and two passes broken up. He followed up as a sophomore in 2018, playing in nine games and had five starts while adding 21 tackles and four pass break-ups.

After missing most of 2019 with a shoulder injury he returned in 2020 and saw action in all nine games - he added 29 total tackles, had three passes broken up, and allowed a 98.7 QB rating when targetted. At the end of the season, he transferred to Missouri in 2021 and he played in 11 games, starting eight, he totaled 30 tackles on the season, 27 of which were solo, in addition to six pass breakups, two forced fumbles, a TFL, an interception, and a QB rating when targetted of 97.0.
Scouting Report: Strengths
  • Extremely aggressive to come up and put his body in traffic to make tackles. Has ideal combination of height and weight at 6-2 200lbs
  • Excellent athlete with very good measurables - put up a 4.46 40, a 36 inch vertical and a 129 broad jump at the combine
  • Elite run defender who hits hard and rarely misses a tackle
  • Very strong and powerful in coverage who dominates receivers at the catch point
  • Has solid strong hands and effectively uses his hands in coverage
  • Stout and feisty. Will engage, shed and securely wrap the ballcarrier. Very fluid hips, backpedal and change-of-direction agility.
  • A coordinated athlete with good footwork and balance. A heady cover player with above-average · feel and anticipation in space.
  • Has good straight-line speed and good balance, fluidity to change direction.
  • Trusts his eyes with very good awareness. Has very good reaction skills to break quickly on the ball.
Scouting Report: Weaknesses
  • Inconsistent getting off of blocks. Can be a step slow to react when a quarterback comes back to his side of the field late in progression.
  • Has been injury prone - missed games every year
  • Not instinctive in both zone or man coverage - has given up a poor 91.5 career QB rating when targeted
  • Doesn't have a good back peddle - looks stiff in coverage and doesn't have fluid hips
  • Doesn't always recognize routes in coverage leading to a number of penalties
  • Ducks his head and swipes too often on open-field tackles.
  • Fails to maintain inside technique in man coverage
  • Has a high backpedal and loses a step in transition. Plays with decent speed but there are concerns about his ability to handle the truly explosive speedsters of the NFL.
  • Will slip off tackles and needs to finish more consistently
Scouting Report: Summary
Akayleb Evans is an excellent athlete who currently looks a little raw but has elite measurables and if developed correctly may have top upside. He is an elite run defender as a corner who consistently wraps up the ball carrier, but is lacking as a cover corner and gives up too many big plays and penalties.
While he has never played safety we think his skills in the box are more suited to the position and NFL teams really need to look at drafting him as a conversion prospect.

As a corner we look at Evans as a fifth-round developmental prospect in the 2022 NFL draft, although at safety he's probably worth a flier in the fourth.

*Percentile Ranking in Player's Position Group (NFL Combine Historical Data): This percentile reflects how a player's specific statistics rank in comparison to historical performances at the NFL Combine, specifically within their position group. A higher percentile indicates a better performance. For instance, being in the 90th percentile for a particular stat means the player outperformed 90% of their peers in that category.

*Similarity Percentage: This percentage is calculated based on a comprehensive analysis of various factors, including height, weight, 40-yard dash times, on-field performance statistics, and overall player rating. The analysis is conducted against our database of draft prospects from 2021 to 2023. This similarity score helps in evaluating how closely a current prospect aligns with past prospects. It is important to note, however, that this score reflects similarities based on college production and attributes, and does not account for eventual success or performance in the NFL.
