Johnny Dixon from Chamberlain High School was rated a 3-star recruit by ESPN and handed a 3-star grade by 247 Sports. Following high school, Dixon opted to join South Carolina.In 2019 as a freshman Dixon saw action in 8 games and played a total of 105 snaps at cornerback for the Gamecocks. He recorded only 2 tackles, one assist, while adding one stop. In coverage Dixon notched up no pass breakups, one interception, and QB rating when targetted of 77.9.
As a sophomore in 2020 he played in 10 games and logged 555 snaps for the Gamecocks. He made 32 tackles, 3 assists, and had 9 stops. In coverage he totaled 3 pass breakups, no interceptions, and QB rating when targetted of 81.1.

Scouting Report: Strengths
- Has the fluidity, speed and quick feet to come down and defend slot receivers in man coverage. Dixon also does a nice job breaking down in space as a tackler after the catch.
- He’s tall-framed with long arms to match. With his powerful hands, straight-line speed, and fluidity in his hips, turning and chasing downfield shouldn’t be a problem.
- Instinctive, adept at reading routes and anticipating throws, and strong in zone coverage.
- Flashes good ball skills. He has the fluidity and change-of-direction ability to mirror quicker receivers underneath.
- Has the quick feet to mirror receivers underneath. He also has the fluid hips and top-end speed to turn and run downfield. Dixon shows good awareness when dropping into zone coverage, with good route recognition and the ability to break quickly and cover a lot of ground.
- Fluid mover with decent speed and his length allows him to cover effectively downfield
Scouting Report: Weaknesses
- Might not be the kind of pure shutdown corner that the top prospects in this draft have the skill set to become, but offers scheme versatility and the ability to slide inside and cover the slot.
- The majority of the time last season, Dixon was able to physically overwhelm opposing receivers early in the down, a scenario that won’t play out as often against NFL receivers.
- He’ll draw plenty of flags early on with his playing style. Dixon is hesitant when facing the action in zone coverage.
