Despite weighing just 153 pounds coming out of high school he was rated a four-star prospect and the nation’s 33rd-ranked wide receiver in 247 composite rankingsAfter high school, Hyatt committed to Virginia Tech but Hyatt swapped to Tennessee.
In 2020 as a freshman Hyatt saw action in 10 games for the Volunteers as he made 20 receptions for a solid 276 yards for an average of 13.8 yards per reception, with 2 TDs, and a solid QB rating when targeted of 78.6.

Honors & awards
Scouting Report: Strengths
- Has elite speed - can eat up cornerbacks cushion in an instant and can beat even the quickest DBs
- Hyatt recorded a 10.46 in the 100m and 21.14 in the 200m. He has run an electronically timed 4.31 40-yard dash and added 34.5″ vertical. He's probably even faster now
- In 2022 he has shown he can totally dominate even the top secondaries in college football - he's pretty much impossible to stop unless double-covered
- His long arms allow him to play bigger than his size and also displays an impressive catch radius -Hyatt has the frame to can carry even more weight.
- Hyatt tracks the ball well downfield and consistently runs under long throws.
- He is amazing as a catch-and-run threat, running hard and consistently picking up big yardage after the catch.
- He shows elite initial quickness off the line of scrimmage, and he has enough strength to be able to consistently escape the jam at the next level.
- A savvy, natural pass-catcher with reliable hands and very good focus. Snatches the ball out of the air and shows the concentration to make acrobatic catches look easy.
- He’s a precise route runner, creating separation when used on quick outs and stop patterns in college. Hyatt has good stop-start ability and lateral agility.
- Is an excellent blocker considering his relatively slight frame
- It can't be ignored that he led the country in QB rating when targetted in 2022
Scouting Report: Weaknesses
- His tape is limited and has had only one season (2022) putting up elite numbers. Prior to then, his performances were pretty none descript.
- He’ll have to develop a better feel for sitting down against zone coverage.
- His route tree has been pretty limited - will take some serious time to adjust to pro offense
- Has played most of his snaps from the slot and therefore rarely has been challenged in press coverage
- May struggle to convert his skills to the pro game where he has just been told to win footraces on deep patterns
Player Comparison
Jameson Williams - Detroit LionsScouting Report: Summary
2022 has proved to be a spectacular year for Jalin Hyatt where he exploded onto the national scene. He's emerged as the premier deep threat in college football and compares favorably to last year's first-round pick Alabama's Jameson Williams. He's often unstoppable as a deep threat -- and has proved as much against top competition in the SEC.If Hyatt is the premier deep threat in the 2023 NFL Draft, however, he risks being considered a bit of a one-trick pony and how he gets on in the pros where he'll have to run multiple routes is uncertain.Still, his speed and explosion will always be in demand in the NFL and as a result, he should be gone before the end of the first round.
Jalin Hyatt percentiles vs other Wide Receivers (NFL Combine historically - higher value represents better perfomance)
Update - 04/21/2023
Hyatt's combine was a mixed bag - his vertical and broad jump were both elite (93rd and 99th percentile respectively), however, his forty while still outstanding at 4.4 flat was not elite. And the reason this is important for Hyatt is that the main reason his pre-combine stock was so high was due to notional forty times in the high 4.2s or at the very least 4.3s.Jalin Hyatt Video Review
