Drafted: 2021: ROUND: 3 - Pick Number: 68 (ATL)
Mayfield got the attention of scouts in 2019 when he got an honorable mention All-Big Ten selection as a 13-game starter at right tackle for Michigan. He decided to opt-out of the 2020 season but changed his mind after Michigan change the date for the season's games. He played well in both starts at right tackle but an ankle injury cut short his season.
During his time at Michigan, Mayfield added 75 pounds to his high school weight. At 6’5″ and 320 pounds, putting him in the power category for NFL OTs.
Strengths
- Large, athletic tackle with the potential to line up on the left or right side.
- Fundamentally sound and understands blocking angles, using body positioning to his advantage. Disciplined awareness and good intelligence.
- Tall, long, athletic pass protector. Generally gets out of three-point stance with good knee bend and a wide base.
- Possesses a long, lean, athletic body with plenty of room for additional muscle mass. Long arms.
- Best on the outside because of his height and athleticism, but is capable of blocking on the move.
- Experience of playing both offensive tackle positions at Michigan will improve his NFL Draft stock.
- Mayfield shows excellent footwork, which helps him to excel in pass blocking.
Weaknesses
- Will play undisciplined at times, especially in space. Lacks a finishing attitude.
- Whiffs on blocks after beaten initially and lacks range and lateral quickness. Plays too high and without proper leverage, pad level and can be passive.
- Needs to prove his worth in a straight-ahead running game.
We consider Mayfield to be a solid prospect with a 1st/2nd grade and assuming Mayfield can continue to improve and take full advantage of his natural size for the position, will carve out a nice NFL career.

*Percentile Ranking in Player's Position Group (NFL Combine Historical Data): This percentile reflects how a player's specific statistics rank
in comparison to historical performances at the NFL Combine, specifically within their position group. A higher percentile indicates a better performance.
For instance, being in the 90th percentile for a particular stat means the player outperformed 90% of their peers in that category.
*Similarity Percentage: This percentage is calculated based on a comprehensive analysis of various factors, including height, weight, 40-yard dash times, on-field performance statistics, and overall player rating. The analysis is conducted against our database of draft prospects from 2021 to 2023. This similarity score helps in evaluating how closely a current prospect aligns with past prospects. It is important to note, however, that this score reflects similarities based on college production and attributes, and does not account for eventual success or performance in the NFL.
