After high school, Tarlas joined Weber State.In 2018 as a freshman Tarlas saw action in 9 games and played a total of 76 snaps for the Wildcats. He recorded only 4 tackles, no assists, while adding 7 stops. As a pass rusher, he added 7 total pressures, which included 2 QB hurries, one QB hit, and 4 sacks on the season.
As a sophomore for the Wildcats in 2019 Tarlas played in 8 games and took part in 142 snaps for the Wildcats. He recorded only 9 tackles, no assists, while adding 8 stops. As a pass rusher, he chalked up 10 total pressures, and 6 QB hurries, one QB hit, and 3 sacks during the year.
In 2020 as a junior Tarlas played in 6 games and contributed on 333 snaps. He recorded 18 tackles, 5 assists while making 13 stops. - Flashes strength at the point of attack with active, violent hand use. Forceful with his upper body to defeat blocks. Strong hustle player.
- Aggressive with good awareness to track the ball and attack. Tenacious, tough, competItIve and versatile.
- Offers some versatility, rushing from a two-and three-point stance with the playing speed to stand up in space. Flashes strength as a bull rusher and his energy doesn't plateau.
- His spin move is already NFL-caliber, and Tarlas displays a very good motor.
- He’s effective as an edge setter, showing the ability to drop anchor and ward off blocks.
- Tarlas could fit as a 3-4 OLB, as he held his own when he was asked to drop into coverage at times.
Scouting Report: Weaknesses
- Tarlas remains a bit raw, as Tarlas is inconsistent with his hand use and lacks violence in his hands
- Lacks overpowering strength and can stick to blocks. Lacks explosive speed to bend and flatten off the corner with stiff hips and ankles. Not flexible or fluid.
