Draft Profile: Bio
David Ojabo was born in Nigeria and moved to Aberdeen in Scotland at the age of seven. He moved to the USA when he was only 15 where his athletic talents became evident. He played Soccer, basketball exclusively and ran track until 2017 when he played football competitively for the first time. It wasn't his football skills that got scouts' attention it was his physical traits: Ojabo ran a 10.83 100-meter dash at New Jersey's prep state championships. Despite only playing a year of football he received a four-star recruiting grade and scholarship from Michigan.
Ojabo didn't see significant playing time until 2020 where he broke into the line up a special teams standout and it wasn't until 2021 where he broke the starting lineup on defense and began dominating.
He has logged 11 sacks, QB 23 hurries and a record-breaking 5 forced fumbles in 14 games while playing on 508 snaps. This has led to him making the AP All-American list as a second-teamer.
Scouting Report: Strengths
- A total athletic mismatch for offensive lineman with high end explosiveness and raw power
- He made Bruce Feldman’s “Freaks List” this past offseason. At 6’5″, 250 pounds, Ojabo has impressive length and a fairly dense frame while running like a sprinter
- Excellent acceleration as an edge rusher - can hit top speed in a flash
- Impressive lateral movement with a surprising arsenal of moves for a player with so little top-level football experience
- Super twitch athlete with range and long arms to snag quarterbacks
- Very good in run support and wraps up runners with ease
- Catches backs from behind with speed and quickness
- A former track star at high school - who ran a 10.83 100 meter dash. He will likely blow up the combine
- Has the natural power to 'rag doll' smaller tackles back into the quarterback
Scouting Report: Weaknesses
- Very inexperienced who has only had a full year of college ball
- Relies on physical gifts alone for the most part - something he will be unable to do at the next level
- Is inconsistent in run defense hasn't let learned the nuances of the game
- Played opposite likely top pick Aidan Hutchinson so rarely had to put up with double teams
- Will need to improve his hand use where he sometimes looks undisciplined
- Suffered a torn Achilles during his pro day workout at the school - doctors expect Ojabo to be on a similar recovery timeline to Los Angeles Rams running back Cam Akers, who tore an Achilles in July and returned to play in about six months. That would put Ojabo in line to miss a few weeks of the 2022 regular season
Scouting Report: Summary
David Ojabo may have the greatest upside of any player in the 2022 NFL Draft class with a unique combination of size, strength, and speed. Considering he has only one full season as a full-time pass rusher he has exceeded any possible expectations. For all his upside, he is very raw and still learning the position and so he does represent a risk as a high day one pick - as there is no guarantee he will continue to develop and fully master the position. If he does develop as we hope he'll likely end up being the best pass-rusher in this class, even exceeding his Michigan teammate Hutchinson.
Before his injury we currently had Ojabo rated as a top 15 pick who may have even gone higher, but now it's a possibility he falls out of the first round on the 2022 NFL Draft.

*Percentile Ranking in Player's Position Group (NFL Combine Historical Data): This percentile reflects how a player's specific statistics rank
in comparison to historical performances at the NFL Combine, specifically within their position group. A higher percentile indicates a better performance.
For instance, being in the 90th percentile for a particular stat means the player outperformed 90% of their peers in that category.
*Similarity Percentage: This percentage is calculated based on a comprehensive analysis of various factors, including height, weight, 40-yard dash times, on-field performance statistics, and overall player rating. The analysis is conducted against our database of draft prospects from 2021 to 2023. This similarity score helps in evaluating how closely a current prospect aligns with past prospects. It is important to note, however, that this score reflects similarities based on college production and attributes, and does not account for eventual success or performance in the NFL.
