Carter Warren from Passaic High School was rated a 4-star recruit by ESPN and handed a 3-star grade by 247 Sports. Following high school, Warren opted to join Pittsburgh.In 2019 as a freshman Warren saw action in 13 games and played a total of 865 snaps for the Panthers. He allowed a disappointing 35 QB hurries, 5 QB hits, and 2 sacks while playing most of his snaps at left tackle.
As a sophomore in 2020 he played in 9 games and a total of 607 snaps. He conceded a disappointing 18 QB hurries, one QB hit, and one sack while playing most of his snaps at left tackle.
In 2021 as a junior Warren saw action in 14 games and totaled 1053 snaps. He gave up a disappointing 18 QB hurries, 2 QB hits, and 5 sacks while playing the majority of his snaps at left tackle, and the rest at tight tackle.
In 2022 as a senior Warren saw action in 4 games and played a total of 234 snaps for the Panthers. He allowed just 3 QB hurries, no QB hits, and one sack while playing at left tackle.
Scouting Report: Strengths
- Effective grappling in the phone booth, with the upper-body strength and strong hands to outbattle defenders. Warren also shows a good understanding of angles when moving out to the second level
- In the run game, Warren shows good burst off the line of scrimmage, with the ability to win at the point of attack. He has enough speed and athleticism to move to the second level and land blocks.
- Consistently lands blocks at the second level, and he finishes strong. As a pass protector, he has violent, heavy hands. Along with a strong initial punch, he has the hand strength to grip and redirect pass rushers.
- Shows good quickness and flexibility on reach blocks, and he has enough range to get out as a puller.
- He’s a fluid mover in pass protection, with great coordination between his upper and lower body. Warren sets with a wide base, has the requisite core strength and plays with natural balance, capable of sitting back and handling power.
Scouting Report: Weaknesses
- Can be a tick slow at the snap when asked to pass protect, and at times Warren looks hesitant when facing stunts and twists.
- Stops his feet after initial contact, relying on length but allowing defender to get the corner or spin inside.
- Can struggle to stay engaged, especially on the second level. His hand placement can be sloppy, costing him power.
- Needs to prove his worth in a straight-ahead running game.
