Scouting Report: Strengths
- He’s patient, letting blocks develop then accelerating. Cardwell runs with a good forward lean and consistently falls forward.
- Flashes initial burst and good lateral quickness to sidestep defenders or bounce runs outside with very good foot quickness. Displays very good feel as an inside and outside runner with above average vision to make sharp cuts - good patience· and footwork to pick through defenses.
- Has the feet and feel running between the tackles and in the open field. Cardwell has very good vision and patience to pick through defenses.
- His stop-start ability in traffic, exceptional balance, lateral agility and body control allow him to squeeze out chunks of yardage when it appears that nothing is there.
- He’s not a burner, and Cardwell is more of a block-what’s-given runner than a guy who is going to create.
- He’s at his best working in space, showing the quickness and vision of a return specialist. His stop-start ability allows him to create initial separation.
Scouting Report: Weaknesses
- Cardwell can sometimes be impatient, not allowing his blocks to set up, a nuance required for backs to last a decade-plus.
- His playing speed is less than elite. He won’t run past defenders like Cardwell did at the college level.
- Cardwell sometimes get too upright and fails to run behind his pads.
