Draft Grade — Panthers
Overall

FutureA
The Panthers fleeced the room on the phones and earned a A-. The Panthers clearly saw something nobody else did in Phillip Webb, taking him 110 picks ahead of his grade. The board is not convinced. One of the weekend's best, top to bottom, and a A- to show for it.
That is a safety worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly. They won the margins on every swap, and it adds up fast. That quarterback hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.
Job largely done: wide receiver settled and 8 of 9 of the wish list covered.
Bottom line, with Jalon Walker leading the way, this is a class that should pay off fast and rarely be regretted.
Pick Analysis
Pick33
Rnd2
Jalon Walker
The board had Jalon Walker higher than Round 2, Pick 1, and the linebacker fell to them anyway. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick44
Rnd2
Jihaad Campbell
Jihaad Campbell in the Round 2 slot lands just on the right side of the ledger. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick57
Rnd2
Charles Grant
Charles Grant at pick 57 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick67
Rnd3
Harold Fannin Jr.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Harold Fannin Jr. in the 67th pick. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick74
Rnd3
Jayden Higgins
Jayden Higgins at the 74th overall pick nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick111
Rnd4
Joshua Farmer
A market-rate interior defensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Joshua Farmer. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick130
Rnd4
Cam Skattebo
You do not let a running back like Cam Skattebo reach the Round 4 slot and blink. They did not. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick140
Rnd5
Brashard Smith
They read the board right and Brashard Smith was the payoff at pick 140. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick146
Rnd5
Tez Johnson
Tez Johnson in slot 146 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick163
Rnd5
Nohl Williams
Taking Nohl Williams in Round 5, Pick 25 is close to grand larceny; a cornerback that good had no business lasting this long. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick196
Rnd6
Malachi Moore
They will replay Malachi Moore at pick No. 196 for years; that is how good the value is. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick228
Rnd7
Phillip Webb
Phillip Webb at No. 228 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick230
Rnd7
Carson Vinson
A tidy little value on Carson Vinson in the 230th overall pick, a step better than break-even. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick244
Rnd7
Shilo Sanders
They talked themselves into Shilo Sanders at the 244th pick, and the board did not agree. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
