Draft Grade — Texans

FutureB-
The Texans bled value on every deal, hence the C-. The war room fell hard for Jacob Rodriguez, and it showed at Round 4, Pick 8: 55 picks ahead of a board that had other ideas. A weekend of give and take that grades a C-.
Getting Leavitt where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class. The dealing is the wound this class cannot quite close. The Texans clearly valued win-now help, adding bodies who have done it before.
Job largely done: running back settled and 8 of 8 of the wish list covered.
In the end, one you will need a couple of seasons to truly judge.
Pick Analysis
Pick26
Rnd1
Jeremiyah Love
The board fumbled Jeremiyah Love all the way to No. 26, and they scooped it up. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick39
Rnd2
Olaivavega Ioane
The board had cheaper options than Olaivavega Ioane at Round 2, Pick 7, and it noticed. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick41
Rnd2
Jake Slaughter
A clean, defensible pick in the Round 2 slot with a little surplus value in Jake Slaughter. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick64
Rnd2
A.J. Haulcy
A.J. Haulcy at the 64th overall pick jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick69
Rnd3
Eli Stowers
A reach on Eli Stowers in pick 69; the board had better options right there. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick73
Rnd3
Zion Young
Zion Young at pick No. 73 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick107
Rnd4
DeMonte Capehart
They reached a country mile for DeMonte Capehart at pick 107, and the board is aghast. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick108
Rnd4
Jacob Rodriguez
A real head-scratcher, Jacob Rodriguez in pick No. 108 is miles ahead of his ranking. The roster fit checks out.
Pick111
Rnd4
Zachariah Branch
No edge and no loss on Zachariah Branch in slot 111; it is a wash and a sensible one. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick116
Rnd4
Sam Leavitt
They will replay Sam Leavitt at the 116th pick for years; that is how good the value is. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick155
Rnd5
Davison Igbinosun
They paid a round early for Davison Igbinosun in No. 155, more than the board wanted. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick222
Rnd7
Trey Zuhn III
Trey Zuhn III at the Round 7 slot is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick230
Rnd7
Malik Hartford
Malik Hartford in the 230th overall pick is fair value, right on his grade. They doubled down on a strength rather than a need.
Pick237
Rnd7
Peyton Bowen
A reach for Peyton Bowen in Round 7, Pick 23; a little patience would have been rewarded. A luxury on a unit that was already in good shape.
