Draft Grade — Texans
Overall

FutureB-
The Texans bled value on every deal, hence the D. The Texans clearly saw something nobody else did in Akheem Mesidor, taking him 32 picks ahead of his grade. The board is not convinced.
The trade table is where this weekend went wrong. Leaving quarterback unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.
On value alone, Reese makes the weekend a net positive. The Alijah Vera-Tucker deal gives the class an established piece to lean on.
Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even, and quarterback is still a hole.
Pick Analysis
Pick24
Rnd1
Kadyn Proctor
In the 24th pick they get a long-term starter on the line. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick31
Rnd1
Arvell Reese
In the 31st overall pick they get the heartbeat of the defense, outstanding value to boot. A real need, handled.
Pick46
Rnd2
Kayden McDonald
Kayden McDonald is a better player than No. 46 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick54
Rnd2
Olaivavega Ioane
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Olaivavega Ioane in the Round 2 slot. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick56
Rnd2
Jake Slaughter
A tidy bit of business in Round 2, Pick 24, where Jake Slaughter graded well above the range. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick65
Rnd3
A.J. Haulcy
A.J. Haulcy at pick 65 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the safety. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick97
Rnd3
Akheem Mesidor
Akheem Mesidor at the 97th pick is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick107
Rnd4
Justice Haynes
A quiet steal in pick 107: Justice Haynes for less than the market said. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick122
Rnd4
Michael Trigg
Michael Trigg in the Round 4 slot is fair value, right on his grade. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick162
Rnd5
Kevin Coleman Jr.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Kevin Coleman Jr. in pick No. 162. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick239
Rnd7
J. Michael Sturdivant
J. Michael Sturdivant at the 239th overall pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick241
Rnd7
Dijon Johnson
Dijon Johnson in No. 241 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
