Draft Grade — Dolphins
Overall
A-
ValueB

TradesA+
FutureA
The Dolphins bet the future on Mendoza. The board says A-. The Dolphins spent the pick that matters most on Fernando Mendoza, and a roster that has been waiting on a passer can start to take shape.
The trade ledger is the best part of the whole weekend. The Bowry reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade.
However the rest shakes out, Harvey at that price is a win they earned. The Dolphins indulged a want in Ramsey while a need in edge rusher and running back stayed open.
They will regret leaving edge rusher for another day if the season turns on it.
Add it up and few war rooms did better this weekend, Fernando Mendoza and all.
Pick Analysis
Pick1
Rnd1
Fernando Mendoza
In the 1st overall pick they get their quarterback of the future. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick14
Rnd1
Arvell Reese
In Round 1, Pick 14 they get a green-dot type in the middle, and a steal at that. A real need, handled.
Pick22
Rnd1
Denzel Boston
In No. 22 they get a matchup problem out wide at fair value. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick43
Rnd2
Dillon Thieneman
A tidy bit of business in slot 43, where Dillon Thieneman graded well above the range. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick71
Rnd3
Kamari Ramsey
Of all the spots to shop, they chose safety. Kamari Ramsey in the Round 3 slot leaves edge rusher and running back for later.
Pick75
Rnd3
Domonique Orange
They paid sticker price for Domonique Orange in pick No. 75, and that is fine. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick87
Rnd3
Jude Bowry
Jude Bowry in pick 87 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. It fills a real need, too.
Pick90
Rnd3
Malachi Fields
Circle this one: Malachi Fields at the 90th pick is a fall that decides a draft. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick111
Rnd4
Will Lee III
Will Lee III in the 111th overall pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick115
Rnd4
Michael Trigg
Michael Trigg in pick 115 is fair value, right on his grade. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick149
Rnd5
DeMonte Capehart
DeMonte Capehart at the Round 5 slot nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick152
Rnd5
Beau Stephens
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Beau Stephens at pick No. 152. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick213
Rnd6
Harrison Wallace III
Harrison Wallace III at slot 213 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick214
Rnd6
Diego Pavia
Value said wait; Diego Pavia in Round 6, Pick 35 says they were not listening. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick224
Rnd7
Thaddeus Dixon
They let Thaddeus Dixon come to them and pounced at No. 224. They added to a strength when a need was still open elsewhere.
Pick227
Rnd7
Keyshaun Elliott
A slide stopped in the 227th pick, with Keyshaun Elliott worth more than the price. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick249
Rnd7
DJ Harvey
Somehow DJ Harvey was still sitting there in the 249th pick, and they pounced on premier cornerback value. A luxury on a unit that was already in good shape.
