Draft Grade — Commanders

FutureB-
Larceny in the 100th pick lands the Commanders a D-, Muhammad and all. Every swap seemed to tilt away from the Commanders, and the value they bled adds up to real damage.
The Ponds pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through quarterback. Landing Muhammad that late papers over a lot of smaller sins.
Add it up and it is a weekend the front office will hope everyone forgets, quarterback very much included.
Pick Analysis
Pick17
Rnd1
Jeremiyah Love
In pick No. 17 they get an every-down engine for the run game, and a steal at that. A real need, handled.
Pick46
Rnd2
Sonny Styles
Nice patience on Sonny Styles, who had no business lasting to the 46th overall pick. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick71
Rnd3
Connor Lew
A reasonable price with a little left over, Connor Lew in the Round 3 slot. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick74
Rnd3
Zakee Wheatley
Zakee Wheatley at No. 74 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick75
Rnd3
Jake Golday
A straight-up fair deal on Jake Golday at Round 3, Pick 11, value and slot in agreement. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick87
Rnd3
Caden Curry
Caden Curry in slot 87 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick88
Rnd3
D'Angelo Ponds
D'Angelo Ponds at the 88th overall pick is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick100
Rnd3
Malik Muhammad
They robbed the room for Malik Muhammad here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick118
Rnd4
DeMonte Capehart
A premium they did not need to pay, DeMonte Capehart a notch or two before his time. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick145
Rnd5
David Oke
David Oke in pick No. 145 lands just on the right side of the ledger. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick153
Rnd5
Aaron Anderson
No edge and no loss on Aaron Anderson in the 153rd pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick176
Rnd5
Oscar Delp
A clean, defensible pick in the Round 5 slot with a little surplus value in Oscar Delp. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick185
Rnd6
Bud Clark
Bud Clark in slot 185 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. A luxury on a unit that was already in good shape.
Pick193
Rnd6
Josh Cuevas
They took Josh Cuevas at par in pick 193, which is nothing to complain about. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick196
Rnd6
Trey Zuhn III
They paid sticker price for Trey Zuhn III in the 196th overall pick, and that is fine. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick223
Rnd7
Hykeem Williams
Hykeem Williams at the 223rd pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick227
Rnd7
Riley Mahlman
Riley Mahlman at pick No. 227 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick229
Rnd7
Dominic Zvada
Dominic Zvada in No. 229 is fair value, right on his grade. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
