Draft Grade — Saints
Overall
D
ValueC+
NeedB
TradesF
FutureA+
A costly weekend of dealing drags the Saints to a D. The Saints clearly saw something nobody else did in Bilhal Kone, taking him 90 picks ahead of his grade. The board is not convinced. A D that will need time and luck to look better.
The dealing is the wound this class cannot quite close. Emmanwori at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster.
The verdict is not kind, and fairly so; this class has a hill to climb.
Pick Analysis
Pick20
Rnd1
Tetairoa McMillan
In Round 1, Pick 20 they get a No. 1 receiver, outstanding value to boot. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick40
Rnd2
Nick Emmanwori
A safety of that caliber at pick 40 is the definition of value, full stop. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick44
Rnd2
Jihaad Campbell
A clean, defensible pick in the 44th overall pick with a little surplus value in Jihaad Campbell. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick71
Rnd3
Quinshon Judkins
Nothing to complain about; Quinshon Judkins went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick80
Rnd3
Deone Walker
Deone Walker in No. 80 is fair value, right on his grade. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick85
Rnd3
Mason Taylor
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Mason Taylor in slot 85. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick86
Rnd3
Kevin Winston Jr.
The board had cheaper options than Kevin Winston Jr. at the Round 3 slot, and it noticed. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
Pick87
Rnd3
Danny Stutsman
Danny Stutsman in No. 87 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. Stacking talent where they were already deep.
Pick93
Rnd3
Denzel Burke
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Denzel Burke well ahead of where he belonged. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick112
Rnd4
Chimere Dike
They did well to land Chimere Dike in pick No. 112, just ahead of his grade. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick117
Rnd4
Que Robinson
Que Robinson at slot 117 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick131
Rnd4
Ty Robinson
A real head-scratcher, Ty Robinson in the 131st overall pick is miles ahead of his ranking. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick132
Rnd4
Luke Kandra
Luke Kandra in pick 132 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick141
Rnd5
Bilhal Kone
They talked themselves into Bilhal Kone at Round 5, Pick 3, and the board did not agree. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick167
Rnd5
Dont'e Thornton Jr.
A conviction pick on Dont'e Thornton Jr. at the 167th overall pick that the board grades a round light. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick179
Rnd6
Jalen McLeod
Jalen McLeod at pick No. 179 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick184
Rnd6
Tyler Batty
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Tyler Batty. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick204
Rnd6
Carson Vinson
This one needs a full-page explanation: Carson Vinson in slot 204, miles early. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick208
Rnd6
Jalen Travis
They reached into another round for Jalen Travis, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick216
Rnd6
Garrett Dellinger
They left a pile of value on the table to take Garrett Dellinger this early at pick 216. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick239
Rnd7
Brady Cook
Brady Cook at the 239th pick is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
