Draft Grade — Commanders

FutureB-
The Commanders won the weekend at the trade table. Grade: B+. The war room fell hard for Keyron Crawford, and it showed at No. 196: 32 picks ahead of a board that had other ideas. They moved the roster forward and banked a B+ for it.
The dealing alone would carry a lesser class. That Hill Jr. pick is the receipt they will wave around later. The veteran additions, Harold Landry III chief among them, give the class a floor the rookies alone would not.
Bottom line, more hits than misses and a roster nudged the right way.
Pick Analysis
Pick26
Rnd1
Kenyon Sadiq
In No. 26 they get a red-zone target to build around. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick31
Rnd1
Sonny Styles
In slot 31 they get a green-dot type in the middle, and a steal at that. Need was not the driver here.
Pick57
Rnd2
D'Angelo Ponds
Fair-plus on D'Angelo Ponds, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick63
Rnd2
Anthony Hill Jr.
You do not let a linebacker like Anthony Hill Jr. reach the Round 2 slot and blink. They did not. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
Pick71
Rnd3
Anthony Lucas
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Anthony Lucas. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick89
Rnd3
Zachariah Branch
Zachariah Branch in the 89th pick is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick95
Rnd3
Julian Neal
Value with a capital V on Julian Neal in Round 3, Pick 31, a genuine coup. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick126
Rnd4
Keylan Rutledge
Keylan Rutledge in the Round 4 slot lands just on the right side of the ledger. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick131
Rnd4
Michael Trigg
A slide stopped in No. 131, with Michael Trigg worth more than the price. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick145
Rnd5
Aaron Graves
They paid sticker price for Aaron Graves in pick 145, and that is fine. The roster fit checks out.
Pick166
Rnd5
Earnest Greene III
They took Earnest Greene III at par in the 166th pick, which is nothing to complain about. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick169
Rnd5
Brenen Thompson
A tidy bit of business in pick No. 169, where Brenen Thompson graded well above the range. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick185
Rnd6
Eric O'Neill
Eric O'Neill at the 185th overall pick is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick194
Rnd6
Trey Zuhn III
Trey Zuhn III in slot 194 is fair value, right on his grade. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick196
Rnd6
Keyron Crawford
Keyron Crawford at pick No. 196 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick200
Rnd6
Desmond Reid
Desmond Reid at pick 200 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It fills a real need, too.
Pick220
Rnd7
Riley Mahlman
No drama and no debate, Riley Mahlman went about where he belonged in the 220th pick. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick223
Rnd7
Jordan Hall
Jordan Hall at No. 223 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick232
Rnd7
Joey Aguilar
Joey Aguilar is a better player than slot 232 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick247
Rnd7
Micah Morris
No edge and no loss on Micah Morris in Round 7, Pick 31; it is a wash and a sensible one. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
