FutureA+
Good, not great, for the Colts: B. Nobody else had Kain Medrano anywhere near pick 255. The Colts did, by 76 spots, and that gap is the whole story.
On value alone, Emmanwori makes the weekend a net positive. Wide receiver was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.
The future picks help the war chest more than the win-now roster. The dealing was even money, start to finish.
A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.
Pick Analysis
Pick41
Rnd2
Nick Emmanwori
A safety of that caliber at pick 41 is the definition of value, full stop. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick57
Rnd2
Azareye'h Thomas
No drama and no debate, Azareye'h Thomas went about where he belonged in the 57th overall pick. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick58
Rnd2
Alfred Collins
Fair-plus on Alfred Collins, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick62
Rnd2
Donovan Jackson
They paid sticker price for Donovan Jackson in Round 2, Pick 30, and that is fine. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick65
Rnd3
TreVeyon Henderson
The board had TreVeyon Henderson higher than the Round 3 slot, and the running back fell to them anyway. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick78
Rnd3
Mason Taylor
Mason Taylor in No. 78 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick84
Rnd3
Darius Alexander
Darius Alexander in pick 84 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick96
Rnd3
Oluwafemi Oladejo
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Oluwafemi Oladejo well ahead of where he belonged. It fills a real need, too.
Pick99
Rnd3
Jared Wilson
No edge and no loss on Jared Wilson in Round 3, Pick 35; it is a wash and a sensible one. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick104
Rnd4
Emery Jones Jr.
A premium they did not need to pay, Emery Jones Jr. a notch or two before his time. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick117
Rnd4
Jeffrey Bassa
A straight-up fair deal on Jeffrey Bassa at slot 117, value and slot in agreement. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick123
Rnd4
Jonas Sanker
Jonas Sanker at the 123rd overall pick is a conviction pick that outran the value. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
Pick140
Rnd5
Tyler Shough
Tyler Shough at the Round 5 slot is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick151
Rnd5
Damien Martinez
Damien Martinez at the 151st pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick169
Rnd5
JJ Pegues
They liked JJ Pegues enough to skip the value, taking him in pick 169. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick171
Rnd5
DJ Giddens
A market-rate running back, with the board and the slot shaking hands on DJ Giddens. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick177
Rnd6
Jack Nelson
They took Jack Nelson at par in slot 177, which is nothing to complain about. The roster fit checks out.
Pick198
Rnd6
R.J. Mickens
A reach for R.J. Mickens in pick No. 198; a little patience would have been rewarded. They doubled down on a strength rather than a need.
Pick200
Rnd6
Jamon Dumas-Johnson
Jamon Dumas-Johnson in the 200th overall pick is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick219
Rnd7
Cam Jackson
A conviction pick on Cam Jackson at Round 7, Pick 3 that the board grades a round light. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick225
Rnd7
Isaac TeSlaa
The board had cheaper options than Isaac TeSlaa at No. 225, and it noticed. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick226
Rnd7
Cody Lindenberg
Cody Lindenberg at the 226th pick is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. It fills a real need, too.
Pick235
Rnd7
Thomas Fidone II
They paid up for Thomas Fidone II at the 235th pick when waiting would have done the job. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick241
Rnd7
Brandon Adams
They jumped the gun on Brandon Adams, taking him earlier than his grade liked. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
Pick248
Rnd7
Marcus Yarns
Marcus Yarns in Round 7, Pick 32 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick249
Rnd7
Jalen Travis
This one needs a full-page explanation: Jalen Travis in No. 249, miles early. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick255
Rnd7
Kain Medrano
They reached into another round for Kain Medrano, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. The roster fit checks out.
