Draft Grade — Bears
Overall

TradesA+
FutureB-
The Bears let Reese fall and pounced. Final grade: B+. The Bears ran the phones like sharks, prying loose value on deal after deal until the ledger was lopsided.
Reese at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster. That quarterback hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.
If Anderson II pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about.
Good work on the whole, with quarterback the one box left unchecked.
Pick Analysis
Pick25
Rnd1
Arvell Reese
They robbed the room for Arvell Reese here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick80
Rnd3
Emmanuel McNeil-Warren
The board had Emmanuel McNeil-Warren higher than Round 3, Pick 16, and the safety fell to them anyway. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick89
Rnd3
Julian Neal
Julian Neal is a better player than the 89th overall pick suggests; smart patience, rewarded. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick106
Rnd4
Caden Curry
A tidy little value on Caden Curry in the Round 4 slot, a step better than break-even. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick115
Rnd4
Jack Endries
Jack Endries slid further than he should have, and pick No. 115 is lovely value for the tight end. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick129
Rnd4
Tim Keenan III
A market-rate interior defensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Tim Keenan III. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick131
Rnd4
DeMonte Capehart
They took DeMonte Capehart at par in pick No. 131, which is nothing to complain about. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick160
Rnd5
Chase Roberts
A slide stopped in No. 160, with Chase Roberts worth more than the price. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick163
Rnd5
Zane Durant
Zane Durant at slot 163 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick166
Rnd5
Jermaine Mathews Jr.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Jermaine Mathews Jr. in the 166th overall pick. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick168
Rnd5
Jaydn Ott
Jaydn Ott in the Round 5 slot is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick169
Rnd5
Xavier Nwankpa
A clean, defensible pick in Round 5, Pick 31 with a little surplus value in Xavier Nwankpa. A want more than a need, though you can never have too many.
Pick172
Rnd5
Kobe Baynes
They did well to land Kobe Baynes in pick 172, just ahead of his grade. The roster fit checks out.
Pick173
Rnd5
Oscar Delp
No drama and no debate, Oscar Delp went about where he belonged in the 173rd pick. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
Pick195
Rnd6
Trey Zuhn III
Trey Zuhn III in pick No. 195 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick196
Rnd6
DJ Harvey
A quiet steal in Round 6, Pick 17: DJ Harvey for less than the market said. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick220
Rnd7
J. Michael Sturdivant
A straight-up fair deal on J. Michael Sturdivant at the 220th pick, value and slot in agreement. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick228
Rnd7
PJ Williams
PJ Williams in slot 228 is fair value, right on his grade. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick231
Rnd7
Ethan O'Connor
No edge and no loss on Ethan O'Connor in pick 231; it is a wash and a sensible one. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick239
Rnd7
Jordan Hall
A premium they did not need to pay, Jordan Hall a notch or two before his time. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick241
Rnd7
Micah Morris
Micah Morris at the Round 7 slot is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick247
Rnd7
Raheem Anderson II
They liked Raheem Anderson II enough to skip the value, taking him in No. 247. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick251
Rnd7
Damari Brown
They paid sticker price for Damari Brown in slot 251, and that is fine. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
