Draft Grade — Chiefs
Overall

ValueB
NeedB

FutureA+
The Chiefs bled value on every deal, hence the D+. Some picks age like wine; Squirrel White at slot 179 will need to, sitting 143 spots clear of his grade. A weekend that fought the value and lost, hence the D+.
They lost the exchange badly enough to drag the whole class down. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped interior defensive lineman, which is a strange place to end up.
On value alone, Cooper Jr. makes the weekend a net positive.
The verdict is not kind, and fairly so; this class has a hill to climb.
Pick Analysis
Pick2
Rnd1
Rueben Bain Jr.
In the 2nd pick they get a disruptor off the edge at fair value. A real need, handled.
Pick16
Rnd1
Jeremiyah Love
In the Round 1 slot they get a centerpiece for the ground game, outstanding value to boot. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick30
Rnd1
Arvell Reese
In No. 30 they get a sideline-to-sideline linebacker, and a steal at that.
Pick33
Rnd2
Kenyon Sadiq
Kenyon Sadiq at Round 2, Pick 1 is money in the bank, a tight end taken below his worth. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick40
Rnd2
Caleb Banks
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Caleb Banks at pick 40 is the proof. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick47
Rnd2
Sonny Styles
A slide stopped in pick No. 47, with Sonny Styles worth more than the price. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick61
Rnd2
Jake Slaughter
They read the board right and Jake Slaughter was the payoff at Round 2, Pick 29. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick74
Rnd3
Antonio Williams
Antonio Williams in the Round 3 slot should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick103
Rnd4
Omar Cooper Jr.
Omar Cooper Jr. at pick No. 103 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick109
Rnd4
Daylen Everette
A quiet steal in slot 109: Daylen Everette for less than the market said. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick147
Rnd5
Jaden Greathouse
Jaden Greathouse in pick 147 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick177
Rnd5
Pat Coogan
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Pat Coogan. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick178
Rnd5
Sawyer Robertson
Sawyer Robertson at the 178th pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It fills a real need, too.
Pick179
Rnd5
Squirrel White
Squirrel White in the 179th overall pick is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick193
Rnd6
Dominic Zvada
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Dominic Zvada. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
Pick207
Rnd6
Desmond Reid
No edge and no loss on Desmond Reid in the 207th pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. The roster fit checks out.
Pick216
Rnd6
Scooby Williams
They reached a country mile for Scooby Williams at Round 6, Pick 36, and the board is aghast. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick218
Rnd7
Christian Gray
Christian Gray at pick 218 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. It is more luxury than necessity; they were already set here.
Pick231
Rnd7
Jack Velling
They took Jack Velling at par in pick No. 231, which is nothing to complain about. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick242
Rnd7
PJ Williams
PJ Williams in the 242nd overall pick is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
