Draft Grade — Saints
Overall
B-
ValueC-

FutureC+
A respectable, level-headed haul for the Saints: B-. Somewhere a scout is still blinking. The Saints spent the Round 7 slot on John Emery Jr., a name the board had a full 175 spots lower. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B-.
The quarterback hole is the one line item this class does not answer. Getting Emmanwori where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class. The dealing nudged the ledger their way without much fuss.
In sum, a sensible class that nudges the roster the right way.
Pick Analysis
Pick27
Rnd1
Tyler Booker
In pick No. 27 they get protection for the quarterback, even if it was a touch early. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick28
Rnd1
Nick Emmanwori
In No. 28 they get a rangy last line of defense, outstanding value to boot. Need was not the driver here.
Pick40
Rnd2
Jayden Higgins
They jumped the gun on Jayden Higgins, taking him earlier than his grade liked. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick59
Rnd2
Darien Porter
Darien Porter at Round 2, Pick 27 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick71
Rnd3
David Walker
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for David Walker. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick85
Rnd3
Miles Frazier
A big swing on Miles Frazier at pick 85, well ahead of any board in the building. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick93
Rnd3
Ty Hamilton
This one needs a full-page explanation: Ty Hamilton in the 93rd overall pick, miles early. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick112
Rnd4
Que Robinson
Que Robinson in pick No. 112 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick131
Rnd4
Emery Jones Jr.
The board had cheaper options than Emery Jones Jr. at Round 4, Pick 29, and it noticed. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick184
Rnd6
Dont'e Thornton Jr.
They paid sticker price for Dont'e Thornton Jr. in pick 184, and that is fine. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick196
Rnd6
Desmond Watson
Desmond Watson at No. 196 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick228
Rnd7
Carson Vinson
No drama and no debate, Carson Vinson went about where he belonged in the Round 7 slot. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick244
Rnd7
Jalen Travis
Jalen Travis at the 244th pick is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick248
Rnd7
Garrett Dellinger
A wild overpay on Garrett Dellinger in slot 248, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick254
Rnd7
John Emery Jr.
Value said wait; John Emery Jr. in Round 7, Pick 38 says they were not listening. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
