FutureA
Quarterback settled, Chambliss in the fold, and a C for the Raiders. Call it a hunch or call it a gamble, but the Raiders spent the 20th overall pick on Trinidad Chambliss, a name most had 102 spots down the list. It lands right in the middle: a C, no more, no less.
Trinidad Chambliss gives the offense a face and a plan, and the grade leans heavily on whether he hits. The dealing is the wound this class cannot quite close. Landing Scott that late papers over a lot of smaller sins.
They covered a lot of ground and still skipped interior defensive lineman, which is a strange place to end up.
A perfectly average weekend, for better and for worse.
Pick Analysis
Pick12
Rnd1
Arvell Reese
In Round 1, Pick 12 they get a three-down second-level presence. More want than need.
Pick20
Rnd1
Trinidad Chambliss
In the 20th pick they get their quarterback of the future, though the board says they badly overpaid. A real need, handled.
Pick36
Rnd2
Elijah Sarratt
No drama and no debate, Elijah Sarratt went about where he belonged in slot 36. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick72
Rnd3
A.J. Haulcy
A quiet steal in No. 72: A.J. Haulcy for less than the market said. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick89
Rnd3
Keionte Scott
A top-tier cornerback at a bargain, Keionte Scott in pick 89, plain and simple. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick102
Rnd4
Malachi Lawrence
They talked themselves into Malachi Lawrence at the Round 4 slot, and the board did not agree. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick117
Rnd4
Charles Jagusah
Charles Jagusah in pick 117 is fair value, right on his grade. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick135
Rnd4
Mike Washington Jr.
Mike Washington Jr. at pick No. 135 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick158
Rnd5
Aamil Wagner
No edge and no loss on Aamil Wagner in slot 158; it is a wash and a sensible one. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick184
Rnd6
Oscar Delp
Oscar Delp slipping to No. 184 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. It fills a real need, too.
