Draft Grade — Jets
Overall D+
ValueC NeedA- TradesF FutureB-
The Jets drew a line under the quarterback search with Mendoza: D+.

Call it a hunch or call it a gamble, but the Jets spent pick 101 on Derrick Moore, a name most had 48 spots down the list. The math is unkind, and the D+ follows.

The whole projection now runs through Fernando Mendoza; hit there and everything else looks smarter. They lost the exchange badly enough to drag the whole class down. Leaving running back unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.

The Daniels pick alone nudges the whole weekend up a notch.

Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even.

Pick Analysis
Pick1 Rnd1 Fernando Mendoza
In pick 1 they get a passer to set the clock by, though they paid up to get him. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick33 Rnd2 Anthony Hill Jr.
Anthony Hill Jr. in No. 33 is fair value, right on his grade. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick71 Rnd3 Michael Taaffe
They took Michael Taaffe at par in Round 3, Pick 7, which is nothing to complain about. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick101 Rnd4 Derrick Moore
Derrick Moore in slot 101 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick140 Rnd4 Chase Roberts
Chase Roberts at the 140th pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick183 Rnd6 Gracen Halton
Gracen Halton at pick No. 183 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It fills a real need, too.
Pick200 Rnd6 Evan Stewart
The board had Evan Stewart higher than the 200th pick, and the wide receiver fell to them anyway. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick201 Rnd6 Aamil Wagner
They barely believed it either: Aamil Wagner still on the board at No. 201. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick236 Rnd7 Kayin Lee
They left a pile of value on the table to take Kayin Lee this early at the 236th overall pick. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick256 Rnd7 Smith Snowden
A tidy bit of business in pick 256, where Smith Snowden graded well above the range. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick257 Rnd7 Jalon Daniels
Jalon Daniels at pick No. 257 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
