The Titans turned the phones into found money: B. There is reaching, and then there is Donovan Smith at Round 6, Pick 23. The Titans jumped the board by 70 and dared it to prove them wrong. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B.
The Horton steal is the beam this whole class leans on. Every deal seemed to tilt their way, which is not luck. The imported veterans give this class a floor the draft picks could not on their own.
A workmanlike haul that should hold up just fine.
Pick Analysis
Pick23
Rnd1
Shavon Revel Jr.
In No. 23 they get an island corner. Need was not the driver here.
Pick35
Rnd2
Nick Emmanwori
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Nick Emmanwori at Round 2, Pick 3 is the proof. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick45
Rnd2
Tyler Warren
They barely believed it either: Tyler Warren still on the board at pick 45. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick46
Rnd2
Jihaad Campbell
They let Jihaad Campbell come to them and pounced at the 46th overall pick. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick64
Rnd2
Jaylin Noel
Jaylin Noel at the Round 2 slot is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick80
Rnd3
Quinn Ewers
Quinn Ewers in pick No. 80 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick86
Rnd3
Charles Grant
A straight-up fair deal on Charles Grant at slot 86, value and slot in agreement. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick87
Rnd3
Jordan Burch
Jordan Burch in pick No. 87 is fair value, right on his grade. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick96
Rnd3
Shemar Turner
Value with a capital V on Shemar Turner in Round 3, Pick 32, a genuine coup. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick103
Rnd4
Tai Felton
A tidy little value on Tai Felton in the Round 4 slot, a step better than break-even. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick120
Rnd4
Jake Majors
Jake Majors at pick 120 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick141
Rnd5
Antwaun Powell-Ryland
They liked Antwaun Powell-Ryland enough to skip the value, taking him in the 141st pick. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick161
Rnd5
Tommi Hill
Tommi Hill at No. 161 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A luxury on a unit that was already in good shape.
Pick167
Rnd5
Tory Horton
Circle this one: Tory Horton at the 167th overall pick is a fall that decides a draft. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick178
Rnd6
Dont'e Thornton Jr.
A market-rate wide receiver, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Dont'e Thornton Jr.. The roster fit checks out.
Pick181
Rnd6
Jack Nelson
Jack Nelson at slot 181 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick188
Rnd6
Upton Stout
Upton Stout in the 188th overall pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
Pick199
Rnd6
Donovan Smith
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Donovan Smith. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick218
Rnd7
Jamon Dumas-Johnson
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Jamon Dumas-Johnson well ahead of where he belonged. It fills a real need, too.
Pick256
Rnd7
Tahj Brooks
You do not let a running back like Tahj Brooks reach pick No. 256 and blink. They did not. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
