Skruger DRAFTING FOR THEJaguars
Draft Selections
Draft Grade — Jaguars
Overall
B
ValueB-
NeedB+
TradesB-
FutureB-
The Jaguars won the night they stopped Collins from sliding. Grade: B. Every so often the board makes a mistake, and the Jaguars were there to profit. Alfred Collins, the No. 56 name on the board, should have been long gone before slot 88. Call it a sensible B, earned the boring way.
Leaving safety unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. They are betting Stackhouse proves the room right and everyone else wrong.
They went 7 of 9 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for. The back end got a real overhaul.
All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.
Pick Analysis
Pick5
Rnd1
Will Johnson
By-the-book stuff, Will Johnson at the 5th pick squarely in line with his ranking. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick36
Rnd2
T.J. Sanders
They paid sticker price for T.J. Sanders in No. 36, and that is fine. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick70
Rnd3
Isaiah Bond
No edge and no loss on Isaiah Bond in pick No. 70; it is a wash and a sensible one. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick88
Rnd3
Alfred Collins
A interior defensive lineman of that caliber at the 88th overall pick is the definition of value, full stop. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick107
Rnd4
Miles Frazier
Miles Frazier in Round 4, Pick 5 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick126
Rnd4
Kobe King
Kobe King at pick 126 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick142
Rnd5
Dillon Gabriel
A tidy bit of business in slot 142, where Dillon Gabriel graded well above the range. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick182
Rnd6
RJ Harvey
RJ Harvey is a better player than the Round 6 slot suggests; smart patience, rewarded. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick194
Rnd6
Nazir Stackhouse
They jumped the gun on Nazir Stackhouse, taking him earlier than his grade liked. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
