Draft Grade — Seahawks

FutureF
The Seahawks overdrafted Ransaw and paid the price. Grade: F. Call it a hunch or call it a gamble, but the Seahawks spent pick No. 178 on Caleb Ransaw, a name most had 32 spots down the list.
The trades bled value they could not afford to lose. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through interior defensive lineman. They banked enough surplus on Loveland to cover a lot of smaller sins.
It is a win-now wager, and the future is the stake.
In short, a weekend the front office will want to forget in a hurry.
Pick Analysis
Pick10
Rnd1
Jahdae Barron
In the 10th pick they get a lockdown presence outside. Need was not the driver here.
Pick12
Rnd1
Matthew Golden
A market-rate wide receiver, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Matthew Golden. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick18
Rnd1
Grey Zabel
They liked Grey Zabel enough to skip the value, taking him in pick No. 18. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick22
Rnd1
Tyler Booker
In the Round 1 slot they get protection for the quarterback, though they paid up to get him. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick37
Rnd2
Omarion Hampton
Omarion Hampton at Round 2, Pick 5 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the running back. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick39
Rnd2
Emeka Egbuka
Emeka Egbuka slipping to No. 39 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick41
Rnd2
Jayden Higgins
The board had cheaper options than Jayden Higgins at pick 41, and it noticed. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick50
Rnd2
Colston Loveland
Colston Loveland in the Round 2 slot is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. The roster fit checks out.
Pick52
Rnd2
Donovan Ezeiruaku
Donovan Ezeiruaku at slot 52 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick68
Rnd3
Carson Schwesinger
They paid sticker price for Carson Schwesinger in the 68th overall pick, and that is fine. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick82
Rnd3
Jack Bech
Jack Bech is a better player than Round 3, Pick 18 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick92
Rnd3
Jalen Milroe
By-the-book stuff, Jalen Milroe at No. 92 squarely in line with his ranking. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick178
Rnd6
Caleb Ransaw
Caleb Ransaw in pick No. 178 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick188
Rnd6
Jack Kiser
They did well to land Jack Kiser in the 188th pick, just ahead of his grade. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
