FutureA
The Commanders got the worse of every deal, and it shows in the D. The move everyone will second-guess came early. The Commanders reached some 68 spots for Albert Regis, and value like that does not grow back.
The trade table is where this weekend went wrong. The wide receiver spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Dixon.
Add it up and it is a weekend the front office will hope everyone forgets, wide receiver very much included.
Pick Analysis
Pick31
Rnd1
Zion Young
In No. 31 they get a problem off the edge, reach and all. A real need, handled.
Pick38
Rnd2
Akheem Mesidor
A wild overpay on Akheem Mesidor in the Round 2 slot, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick65
Rnd3
Jadarian Price
A quiet steal in the 65th overall pick: Jadarian Price for less than the market said. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick71
Rnd3
Jake Golday
A tidy bit of business in pick 71, where Jake Golday graded well above the range. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick95
Rnd3
Albert Regis
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Albert Regis well ahead of where he belonged. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick104
Rnd4
Jalon Kilgore
Jalon Kilgore at Round 4, Pick 4 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick128
Rnd4
DeMonte Capehart
A reach for DeMonte Capehart in No. 128; a little patience would have been rewarded. The roster fit checks out.
Pick145
Rnd5
Kage Casey
A straight-up fair deal on Kage Casey at the Round 5 slot, value and slot in agreement. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick185
Rnd6
Nate Boerkircher
They did well to land Nate Boerkircher in pick No. 185, just ahead of his grade. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick210
Rnd6
Bud Clark
A market-rate safety, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Bud Clark. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
Pick217
Rnd7
Trey Zuhn III
Trey Zuhn III at the 217th pick is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick223
Rnd7
TJ Hall
A reasonable price with a little left over, TJ Hall in Round 7, Pick 7. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick243
Rnd7
Thaddeus Dixon
Thaddeus Dixon at pick 243 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick244
Rnd7
Josh Cuevas
Fair-plus on Josh Cuevas, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
