FutureB-
No fireworks, just a tidy B- for the Steelers. Call it a hunch or call it a gamble, but the Steelers spent the 214th overall pick on Luke Hasz, a name most had 42 spots down the list.
The Brailsford pick is fine in a vacuum, less so with interior defensive lineman and edge rusher still on the board. Leaving interior defensive lineman unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. The Taaffe pick alone nudges the whole weekend up a notch.
Nothing here to lose sleep over, and plenty to feel decent about.
Pick Analysis
Pick21
Rnd1
Arvell Reese
In pick No. 21 they get the heartbeat of the defense. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick53
Rnd2
Germie Bernard
They took Germie Bernard at par in slot 53, which is nothing to complain about. The roster fit checks out.
Pick76
Rnd3
Michael Taaffe
Value with a capital V on Michael Taaffe in the Round 3 slot, a genuine coup. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick85
Rnd3
Keionte Scott
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Keionte Scott in No. 85. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick99
Rnd3
Monroe Freeling
They went early on Monroe Freeling in the 99th overall pick, and the value did not follow. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick121
Rnd4
Parker Brailsford
They zigged when the board said zag, taking Parker Brailsford at offensive lineman with interior defensive lineman and edge rusher open.
Pick160
Rnd5
Miller Moss
They talked themselves into Miller Moss at the 160th pick, and the board did not agree. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick213
Rnd6
Ricardo Hallman
Ricardo Hallman in Round 6, Pick 33 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick214
Rnd6
Luke Hasz
A real head-scratcher, Luke Hasz in pick 214 is miles ahead of his ranking. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick224
Rnd7
Rueben Owens II
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Rueben Owens II. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick237
Rnd7
Haynes King
Haynes King in No. 237 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
