Draft Grade — Steelers
Overall B-
ValueC+ NeedB TradesB- FutureB-
A respectable, level-headed haul for the Steelers: B-.

The rest of the league had time to spare on E.J. Williams Jr.; the Steelers did not wait, grabbing him 108 spots ahead at pick 224. No fireworks, but a solid B-.

However the rest shakes out, Lawson at that price is a win they earned. The edge rusher hole is the one line item this class does not answer.

All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but edge rusher.

Pick Analysis
Pick21 Rnd1 Denzel Boston
In pick No. 21 they get a go-to option on the outside. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick53 Rnd2 Dillon Thieneman
A tidy bit of business in Round 2, Pick 21, where Dillon Thieneman graded well above the range. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick76 Rnd3 Deontae Lawson
Deontae Lawson in the Round 3 slot should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. The roster fit checks out.
Pick85 Rnd3 Keionte Scott
Keionte Scott in the 85th overall pick is a gift, value that borders on unfair. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick99 Rnd3 Trinidad Chambliss
Trinidad Chambliss in No. 99 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick121 Rnd4 Lander Barton
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Lander Barton. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick135 Rnd4 Domani Jackson
No drama and no debate, Domani Jackson went about where he belonged in the 135th overall pick. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick159 Rnd5 Le'Veon Moss
A wild overpay on Le'Veon Moss in pick 159, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick213 Rnd6 Roderick Kearney
They reached into another round for Roderick Kearney, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick214 Rnd6 Riley Mahlman
Riley Mahlman at No. 214 is a conviction pick that outran the value. A want more than a need, though you can never have too many.
Pick224 Rnd7 E.J. Williams Jr.
A swing that ignored the value entirely, E.J. Williams Jr. well ahead of where he belonged. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick237 Rnd7 Jordan Hall
A premium they did not need to pay, Jordan Hall a notch or two before his time. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
