Draft Grade — Steelers
Overall B-
ValueB NeedB TradesB- FutureB-
The Steelers did the meat-and-potatoes work well: B-.

You can draft well and still miss the point. The Steelers did plenty of tidy work and somehow never got around to edge rusher, which was the need that mattered most. They moved the roster forward and banked a B- for it.

The Wheatley pick is the one they will point to when this weekend is judged. The cost of the Humphreys reach is exactly the players who went right after him.

They went 6 of 9 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for. Almost all the early capital went to that side of the ball.

All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but edge rusher.

Pick Analysis
Pick21 Rnd1 Jordyn Tyson
In No. 21 they get a weapon on the perimeter, and a steal at that. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick53 Rnd2 Olaivavega Ioane
A tidy bit of business in pick 53, where Olaivavega Ioane graded well above the range. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick76 Rnd3 Omar Cooper Jr.
Omar Cooper Jr. in slot 76 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick85 Rnd3 Zakee Wheatley
Zakee Wheatley in the 85th pick is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick99 Rnd3 Daylen Everette
Daylen Everette in the 99th overall pick lands just on the right side of the ledger. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick121 Rnd4 Trinidad Chambliss
Trinidad Chambliss at the Round 4 slot is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick135 Rnd4 DeMonte Capehart
No edge and no loss on DeMonte Capehart in Round 4, Pick 35; it is a wash and a sensible one. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick159 Rnd5 Treydan Stukes
They let Treydan Stukes come to them and pounced at pick No. 159. It fills a real need, too.
Pick213 Rnd6 Tristan Leigh
No drama and no debate, Tristan Leigh went about where he belonged in No. 213. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
Pick214 Rnd6 Robert Spears-Jennings
Robert Spears-Jennings in the 214th overall pick is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick224 Rnd7 London Humphreys
A reach on London Humphreys in pick 224; the board had better options right there. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick237 Rnd7 Shamar Easter
A market-rate tight end, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Shamar Easter. A need, and now a little less of one.
