Draft Grade — Saints

FutureB-
Nobody dealt better than the Saints this weekend: B+. Nobody had Jackson Slater this high, and it is not close. The Saints reached 34 spots to get him at pick 118.
They won the margins on every swap, and it adds up fast. That is a safety worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly. That cornerback hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the cornerback spot they never got to.
Pick Analysis
Pick14
Rnd1
Kelvin Banks Jr.
In pick No. 14 they get a long-term starter on the line at fair value. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick40
Rnd2
Tyler Warren
You do not let a tight end like Tyler Warren reach the 40th pick and blink. They did not. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick45
Rnd2
JT Tuimoloau
They paid sticker price for JT Tuimoloau in slot 45, and that is fine. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick71
Rnd3
Kaleb Johnson
Kaleb Johnson in pick 71 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick93
Rnd3
Jalen Milroe
Jalen Milroe in Round 3, Pick 29 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick112
Rnd4
Jordan Phillips
They did well to land Jordan Phillips in No. 112, just ahead of his grade. It fills a real need, too.
Pick118
Rnd4
Jackson Slater
They talked themselves into Jackson Slater at pick No. 118, and the board did not agree. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick131
Rnd4
Tyler Baron
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Tyler Baron well ahead of where he belonged. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick184
Rnd6
Tyrion Ingram-Dawkins
A reach on Tyrion Ingram-Dawkins in the 184th overall pick; the board had better options right there. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick248
Rnd7
Jordan Hancock
Jordan Hancock at No. 248 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick254
Rnd7
Hunter Wohler
Hunter Wohler at slot 254 is a conviction pick that outran the value. They doubled down on a strength rather than a need.
