FutureA+
Grand theft in the Round 7 slot: the Colts steal Gordon II and grade out a C. The best pick of the weekend was also the simplest. The Colts watched Ollie Gordon II slide 67 picks past his grade and did not hesitate.
Every board in the league had Truss lower, and that gap is the story. The trade table is where this weekend went wrong. They punted on wide receiver, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.
They will answer for taking safety early while wide receiver, quarterback and other spots went begging.
In the end, one you will need a couple of seasons to truly judge.
Pick Analysis
Pick49
Rnd2
Tyler Warren
Tyler Warren in the 49th overall pick is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick55
Rnd2
Malaki Starks
Malaki Starks in the 55th pick should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick58
Rnd2
Maxwell Hairston
A big swing on Maxwell Hairston at Round 2, Pick 26, well ahead of any board in the building. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick64
Rnd2
Donovan Jackson
This one needs a full-page explanation: Donovan Jackson in pick 64, miles early. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick68
Rnd3
Ajani Cornelius
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Ajani Cornelius. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick69
Rnd3
Deone Walker
They took Deone Walker at par in the Round 3 slot, which is nothing to complain about. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick76
Rnd3
Jihaad Campbell
The board fumbled Jihaad Campbell all the way to slot 76, and they scooped it up. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick87
Rnd3
Xavier Watts
Of all the spots to shop, they chose safety. Xavier Watts in pick No. 87 leaves wide receiver, quarterback and other spots for later.
Pick102
Rnd4
Demetrius Knight Jr.
They will replay Demetrius Knight Jr. at the 102nd pick for years; that is how good the value is. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick104
Rnd4
Logan Brown
Logan Brown at No. 104 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. It fills a real need, too.
Pick110
Rnd4
TreVeyon Henderson
Taking TreVeyon Henderson in slot 110 is close to grand larceny; a running back that good had no business lasting this long. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick111
Rnd4
Mason Taylor
Somehow Mason Taylor was still sitting there in pick No. 111, and they pounced on premier tight end value. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick114
Rnd4
Barrett Carter
Circle this one: Barrett Carter at the Round 4 slot is a fall that decides a draft. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick115
Rnd4
Darius Alexander
They liked Darius Alexander enough to skip the value, taking him in the 115th overall pick. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick118
Rnd4
Dylan Fairchild
They robbed the room for Dylan Fairchild here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. The roster fit checks out.
Pick122
Rnd4
Jake Majors
They read the board right and Jake Majors was the payoff at pick 122. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick144
Rnd5
JJ Pegues
JJ Pegues in the 144th overall pick is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick150
Rnd5
Quincy Riley
They reached a country mile for Quincy Riley at the 150th pick, and the board is aghast. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
Pick159
Rnd5
Cobee Bryant
A real head-scratcher, Cobee Bryant in pick 159 is miles ahead of his ranking. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
Pick165
Rnd5
Smael Mondon Jr.
Smael Mondon Jr. in Round 5, Pick 26 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick215
Rnd6
Xavier Truss
Xavier Truss at pick No. 215 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick241
Rnd7
Ollie Gordon II
You do not let a running back like Ollie Gordon II reach the Round 7 slot and blink. They did not. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick247
Rnd7
Jamon Dumas-Johnson
They barely believed it either: Jamon Dumas-Johnson still on the board at slot 247. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick248
Rnd7
Maxen Hook
Maxen Hook at No. 248 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
Pick256
Rnd7
Javontez Spraggins
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Javontez Spraggins well ahead of where he belonged. A need, and now a little less of one.
