Draft Grade — 49ers
Overall B+
ValueB NeedB TradesA+ FutureB-
The 49ers let Lew fall and pounced. Final grade: B+.

Whoever sat across the table from the 49ers should ask for a receipt. They cleaned the room out, prying loose far more value than they gave up, and it was the quiet MVP of their weekend. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B+.

On value alone, Lew makes the weekend a net positive. They will need Hurst to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it. They punted on running back, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.

On the needs board they went 5 of 8, with offensive lineman the one that mattered most.

In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.

Pick Analysis
Pick40 Rnd2 CJ Allen
They let CJ Allen come to them and pounced at pick No. 40. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick58 Rnd2 Emmanuel McNeil-Warren
You do not let a safety like Emmanuel McNeil-Warren reach the 58th pick and blink. They did not. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick74 Rnd3 Malachi Fields
They took Malachi Fields at par in No. 74, which is nothing to complain about. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick92 Rnd3 Connor Lew
They barely believed it either: Connor Lew still on the board at the Round 3 slot. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick109 Rnd4 Caden Curry
By-the-book stuff, Caden Curry at slot 109 squarely in line with his ranking. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick127 Rnd4 Logan Jones
Logan Jones in the 127th overall pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick133 Rnd4 Michael Trigg
Michael Trigg is a better player than pick 133 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick138 Rnd4 Ted Hurst
Ted Hurst at No. 138 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick171 Rnd5 Nadame Tucker
A reasonable price with a little left over, Nadame Tucker in the 171st pick. A need, and now a little less of one.
