Loveland should have been long gone. The Seahawks pounced, and earned a B. Call it larceny. Colston Loveland sat on the board until No. 52, and the Seahawks did not need to be asked twice. They moved the roster forward and banked a B for it.
It is not that Watts is a bad player; it is that the Seahawks had louder needs to answer first. They will regret leaving edge rusher for another day if the season turns on it.
The roster is better shaped than it was, with wide receiver chief among the fixes. They bet on numbers rather than a single high pick.
Not a headline-grabber, but a perfectly good weekend's work.
Pick Analysis
Pick30
Rnd1
Nick Emmanwori
A slide stopped in pick 30, with Nick Emmanwori worth more than the price. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick52
Rnd2
Colston Loveland
You do not let a tight end like Colston Loveland reach slot 52 and blink. They did not. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick53
Rnd2
Xavier Watts
The eyebrow-raiser of the weekend. They went safety with Xavier Watts while clear needs at edge rusher and quarterback sat open.
Pick56
Rnd2
Jayden Higgins
They paid sticker price for Jayden Higgins in No. 56, and that is fine. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick82
Rnd3
Carson Schwesinger
They let Carson Schwesinger come to them and pounced at Round 3, Pick 18. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick92
Rnd3
Darien Porter
Nice patience on Darien Porter, who had no business lasting to the 92nd pick. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick121
Rnd4
Jordan Phillips
A quiet steal in the 121st overall pick: Jordan Phillips for less than the market said. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick137
Rnd4
Smael Mondon Jr.
Smael Mondon Jr. at the Round 4 slot is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick172
Rnd5
Chase Lundt
They took Chase Lundt at par in pick 172, which is nothing to complain about. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick175
Rnd5
Seth McLaughlin
Nothing to complain about; Seth McLaughlin went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick223
Rnd7
KeAndre Lambert-Smith
Circle this one: KeAndre Lambert-Smith at the Round 7 slot is a fall that decides a draft. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick234
Rnd7
Donovan Edwards
Somehow Donovan Edwards was still sitting there in slot 234, and they pounced on premier running back value. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
