Draft Grade — Commanders
Overall
D
ValueB+
NeedB
TradesF
FutureA
The Commanders got the worse of every deal, and it shows in the D. Every swap seemed to tilt away from the Commanders, and the value they bled adds up to real damage.
The Hobbs pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over. They punted on wide receiver, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.
The McNeil-Warren pick is fine in a vacuum, less so with wide receiver and running back still on the board. The Lew pick is the one they will point to when this weekend is judged.
In the end, a class the front office will want to grow past quickly.
Pick Analysis
Pick22
Rnd1
Arvell Reese
In the 22nd overall pick they get a downhill thumper at linebacker, and a steal at that.
Pick27
Rnd1
Kenyon Sadiq
In pick No. 27 they get a security blanket over the middle at a price that makes it sweeter. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick55
Rnd2
Dillon Thieneman
Dillon Thieneman at pick 55 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick71
Rnd3
Emmanuel McNeil-Warren
Of all the spots to shop, they chose safety. Emmanuel McNeil-Warren in slot 71 leaves wide receiver and running back for later.
Pick86
Rnd3
Connor Lew
Connor Lew in No. 86 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick87
Rnd3
Jake Golday
A slide stopped in the 87th pick, with Jake Golday worth more than the price. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick90
Rnd3
Caden Curry
Caden Curry at Round 3, Pick 26 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick94
Rnd3
D'Angelo Ponds
D'Angelo Ponds in the Round 3 slot is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick112
Rnd4
DeMonte Capehart
They left a pile of value on the table to take DeMonte Capehart this early at slot 112. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick145
Rnd5
Drew Allar
Drew Allar slipping to pick No. 145 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick146
Rnd5
Davison Igbinosun
They took Davison Igbinosun at par in the 146th pick, which is nothing to complain about. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick185
Rnd6
Daevin Hobbs
They talked themselves into Daevin Hobbs at No. 185, and the board did not agree. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick196
Rnd6
Trey Zuhn III
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Trey Zuhn III. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
